Thanks Kurt, I'll try. I sync the ~/.purple directory for several boxes. All boxes are running Lucid with the latest updates from -security and -update repos, and the pidgin PPA. This Desktop is the only one in which the problem occurs.
I use some plugins. Here they are in alphabetical order: Autoaccept, History, Libnotify Popups, MusicTracker, Psychic Mode and Voice/Video Settings. I'll try to check if renaming prefs.xml makes a difference when I get home.
