Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
I can't actually reproduce this bug right now.  Can you update your
system and try again?  Or, are you sure that you meant 'chmod 1777'?

Admittedly I am on x86-64, so if you can reproduce on the very
latest, and 1777 was what you meant, then I'll try isntalling a i686 maverick
and reproducing from that.
