Hi David, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help
make Ubuntu better.
Since apt already calculates how much its going to download, and how
much more space the extracted packages will use, I think this should be
an easy feature to implement.

David, I would suggest that you report it upstream, at bugs.debian.org,
and then paste the link to that bug here as well, as that will help the
apt maintainers in Ubuntu know whether or not it has been fixed or
looked at in Debian as well.
