Thanks for your reply. I disagree with your argument: the fact that people don't know this directory exists is why browsing should start there. $HOME is always accessible from the left-hand pane. In the event of a downloaded certificate, it would probably be saved to the $HOME/Downloads directory, so one has to navigate away from $HOME anyway, and Downloads is also on the left-hand pane.
The OS-dependence of the certs directory is a good point, but there must be a way of determining where to find the CA certificates for any given OS. The directory under /etc in the case of Ubuntu, by the way, seems to hold those certificates for automatic use by web browsers; the originals are under /usr/share/ca-certificates, although they are organized in directories according to the issuing authority which might be a bit confusing for the purposes of NetworkManager. Another good option would be to keep $HOME as the starting directory for the dialogue, but adding the certs directory to the shortcuts on the left-hand pane, much like the dialogue for selecting the icon for a .desktop launcher has /usr/share/pixmaps there. -- Browsing for "CA certificate" should start at /etc/ssl/certs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/631524 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
