I suggest you download either an Ubuntu 10.04 live CD, or the recently
released Ubuntu 10.10 live CD, adn test to see whether your audio works
in either of those Ubuntu versions. If it does, then you may be better
off upgrading to a newer Ubuntu release. Note to upgarde to 10.10 via
the update process, you first need to upgrade to 10.04.
Please report back as to what you find out.
