Hi David, Sorry, but I'm a little confused about your reply. Are you saying that even though my sound is working now, the output I pasted into posted into #7 indicates that my system is broken? And I'm also confused as to what your last sentence means: "The solutions suggested here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa are simpler, so it should not be necessary to follow them anyway." It sounds like your suggesting some simple steps I could take to repair the damage, but then say it won't be necessary for me to follow them?
