Frankly speaking, for my own use, I really don't mind if this is corrected or not : I could find the workaround. But 1) I think I'm a bit more experienced than the default users that are targeted by *ubuntu distribs, and 2) I can speak english
I'm convinced that a standard *ubuntu user who don't speak english won't easily find the workaround, and maybe won't find it at all. It is not described in the french xubuntu documentation and I didn't see any other french page about it. Let add that Gigolo doesn't issue any error or warning message when one try to open a SMB share, simply nothing happens : how can a user guess why nothing happens ? It is not like if there were the message "you are missing the gvfs-fuse package". Moreover I hardly understand the point "not everybody is using it, so it won't be fixed". If a tool is proposed in the official repository to fulfill a need, it is expected to work properly. If it requires additional packages to work properly then these packages have to be in the dependencies, as usual. Browsing SMB shares is a basic (and easy-to-use) feature of any Windows installation. People switching to Linux, especially to *ubuntu distribs which claim to be user-friendly, won't understand why the SMB browsing won't work under xubuntu. I'm puzzled to discover that this bug (which is a packaging bug) seem to exist around since xubuntu 9.04, whereas the fix would be so simple, saving the users many searches on the web to find a workaround. -- gigolo package is missing Depends: or Recommends: gvfs-fuse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/596337 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
