2.31.5 is a bit imprecise, perhaps you meant 2.31.5-0ubuntu1?
You don't mention the actual build failure error message, the patch
isn't attached to this bug and bug #614320 which you mention is a bug in
bacula -- doesn't relate at all.
You do mention cast alignments in your original bug description and
2.31.5-0ubuntu1 mentions a related patch below.
Was this patch sent upstream?
Removing a warning doesn't seem like the right way to fix this bug.....
