The problem can be reproduced at willing and here the steps to see it:

(1.0) Install Ubuntu 10.10 (do not run the updates)

(2.0) install vmware-server-console, you can download from
http://download3.vmware.com/software/vmserver/VMware-server-linux-client-1.0.10-203137.zip
(2.1) Launch $ sudo ./vmware-install.pl for the installation
(2.2) no problem to be reported during the installation

(3.0) Launch $ vmware-server-console and it works without any problem

(4.0) Launch the Ubuntu updates ($ sudo apt-get update and after $ sudo
apt-get upgrade)

(5.0) Try to launch again $ vmware-server-console (with and without
sudo), but you will get the error:

$ vmware-server-console
/usr/lib/vmware-server-console/bin/vmware-server-console: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_mapped_file_unref

and the application is closed after few seconds.

I ran $ sudo vmware-config-server-console.pl but nothing changes.

Conclusion:
Seen that the vmware-server-console was not changed, the problem is on Ubuntu
side from point of view rather than on VMware side.

Could you please suggest me something to fix the problem or if you need
additional information ?

Thanks and Regards

GG
