the same here. After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10, vmware-server-console, even after dowloading latest version available, afte doing 'apt-get update' and reinstalled, the erro below appears: u...@machine:~$ vmware-server-console /usr/lib/vmware-server-console/bin/vmware-server-console: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_mapped_file_unref u...@machine:~$
first, I 'tar' -vxzf VMware-server-console-1.0.6-91891.tar.gz downloaded from http://register.vmware.com/content/download.html and reinstalled. It was successfully according to the perl script available. As the error persisted, I installed libgio, assumed packaged in: apt-cache search libgio libgio-cil - CLI binding for the GIO I/O stack 2.22 libgio-fam - GLib Input, Output and Streaming Library (fam module) libgio2.0-cil-dev - CLI binding for the GIO I/O stack 2.22 by doing apt-get install libgio-cil libgio-fam libgio2.0-cil-dev But the error "/usr/lib/vmware-server-console/bin/vmware-server-console: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_mapped_file_unref" still happens, even if I use root .
