** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Open winecfg. I select the Audio tab and click the Test Sound button.
With only the OSS or the ALSA driver, the Test Audio button produces
  "Audio Test failed.".

  sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio.
  now everything works.
What a piece of crap. I can't believe this is the default sound system.
