Thanks. I realize that you've removed pulseaudio, but if you would try and reproduce this symptom (using pulseaudio) with the latest daily build of the sound drivers (here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules), it'd be appreciated.
