Hi all, I am having this very issue too with a Geforce 8400GS on Ubuntu 10.10. Very frustrating and unsure about what is causing it. I've tried the latest Nvidia drivers from the official website and the ubuntu package (nvidia-current). Boots up and logs in (can hear the login sound) but no display. Only fix is to login to the console and remove the drivers and enable "nouveau" again.
