Hi Swami, thanks for taking the time to report this bug and help us make
Ubuntu better.

I am working my way through some of the older bug reports in Courier and
came upon this one.

Can you please outline a way for us to test this so that we can know
we've fixed it and pinpoint the problem?

It actually would appear that there are two separate issues:

1) the vmail user is not trusted anymore. Can you elaborate? I have
searched the hardy and current natty packages and see no mention of the
string 'vmail'.

2) LDAP support is broken. Again, can you elaborate? I do see where
libldap is missing from courier-maildrop's depends list:

Depends: libc6 (>= 2.7), libgamin0 | libfam0, libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1), libgdbm3
(>= 1.8.3), libpcre3 (>= 7.7), libstdc++6 (>= 4.4.0), courier-base (>= 0.65.0),
default-mta | mail-transport-agent

But the hardy package has similar depends:

Depends: courier-authlib, courier-base (>= 0.58.0.20080127), libc6 (>=
2.7-1), libgamin0 | libfam0, libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1-21), libgdbm3, libpcre3
(>= 7.4), libstdc++6 (>= 4.2.1-4), postfix | mail-transport-agent

So, It would help quite a bit if you were to elaborate on "maildrop does
not know how to query ldap anymore" with a simple test case. I do think
this is testable by simply creating a default LDAP setup per the
documentation. Please confirm you're still having problems before I go
ahead and start that process. Thanks.

Marking Incomplete pending responses from Swami.
