Hi! thanks for your reply. I created that .conf file and put the content you requested into it.
The text is now a bit smaller, but still unacceptably ugly for a boot sequence, particularly since I use this machine to show off Ubuntu Linux to my non IT friends! I demo to all how easy it is and not geeky etc. This new text problem is so ugly and off-putting that I can no longer show just anyone how good Linux is... It's really a shame that this version of Ubuntu has such an ugly reversion to old times when only PhD's could run Linux (I'm one ;-). I hope you can fix it. Let me know if there's anything I can do.
