I am experiencing exactly the same problem on Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. The card I am using however is an E-mu 0404 PCI. When I run lspci the soundcard shows as:
04:03.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB0400 Audigy2 Value Also, running the lsmod | grep emu -i command shows that the emu10k1 module is being loaded (not emu10k1X as some have described above.)
