ok i think i did it i went to terminal and typed in apport-collect 678029 and 
granted  it the access it requested. it said(
To finish authorizing the application identified as apport-collect to access 
Launchpad on your behalf you should go back to the application window in which 
you started the process and inform it that you have done your part of the 
process. )

  Dell Inspiron 9400, has sub-woofer on bottom of laptop when sound is at
  30% volume the sound then comes on and the sub-woofer is at full volume.
  The front speakers don't work till the volume is at 80% up. I am using
  ubuntu 10.10. i have ran a live cd of of an older version (can't
  remember which), and the volume worked great, but just cant get it to
  work with 10.04 or 10.10..... help its really annoying
