yeah i figured it out hop i did not mess anything up cause i closed the
web page before i went back to terminal and pressed enter

Dell Inspiron 9400, has sub-woofer on bottom of laptop when sound is at
30% volume the sound then comes on and the sub-woofer is at full volume.
The front speakers don't work till the volume is at 80% up. I am using
ubuntu 10.10. i have ran a live cd of of an older version (can't
remember which), and the volume worked great, but just cant get it to
work with 10.04 or 10.10..... help its really annoying
