Hi Philip. I'm not sure if I fully understand the problem but can be
inferred from your previous comment #7 that the problem is related to
the existence of that env. variable (v3c)? I mean, it still happens if
you change the variable name for a different one?
By the comment in #5: "The sluggish behavior seems to manifest
periodically" do you mean that it does not happen every time that you
run the script in the two ways? Is it consistent instead (running from
cmd. *always* works and from makefile *always* fails)?
