Hey, Jeremy.

Thank you for looking into this. Unfortunately I cannot update to the
latest release on those machines. Is there a specific change in the
latest release that addresses this issue I ran into?

For the record, this is the first time I have ever attempted to upgrade
to the latest Ubuntu by installing on top of an existing ubuntu install
w/ a partitioned /home directory. I assumed that the installer would
have preserved the uid/gid of my primary account. If there is a step
that I missed that would have avoided these issues, I am all ears.

Assuming that a later release fixes this issue, I am concerned that I
would still have these issues as I think the uid/gid issues would have
hung around from this messed-up installation.

Do you have any theories as to what I can look into to fix the issue?
Any files I should look at to make sure that the permissions are
properly set?

Thanks in advance.
