I pulled a proposed patch from the m-l and put it in
https://code.launchpad.net/~serge-hallyn/ubuntu/natty/qemu-kvm/memtest/.
The resulting package qemu-kvm_0.13.0+noroms-0ubuntu11 is building in
ppa:serge-hallyn/virt.
