This is due to the new method of registering browsers (used in GNOME 3.0
and backported for Ubuntu 11.04). Chrome needs to install a .desktop
file into /usr/share/applications/ that registers the mime types x
-scheme-handler/http and x-scheme-handler/https (like the chromium-
browser package does).

For example, a line like the following in its .desktop file:
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml_xml;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;

I'm not sure where to file bugs against chrome?

** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid
