I can't see a reason in this why NM would crash. Note that from what I
can see, I'd venture to say that your copy of nm-applet is out of date
(there shouldn't be GTK_IS_IMAGE warnings anymore that I know). Please
update your packages to be sure the bug isn't already fixed ;)
To get more information about this, it would be useful if you checked
whether there is a file called something like "_usr_sbin_nm-applet" in
the directory /var/crash -- this would contain all the information
needed to report a bug, and can be done automatically by running
'apport-bug <the name of the file>'.
To simplify further bug reports, you can use the "ubuntu-bug" command
with the name of the package you want to report your bug against. This
will automatically include most of the required information and simplify
debugging.
