More info I noticed that one diff. between the ppa and ubuntu sources is they have the 'enable the soundmenu' patch applied. So w/ the current ubuntu natty 1.9.3 package installed opened banshee, went into preferences and disabled the soundmenu option, closed and re-opened banshee
