I've done some more testing with Mainline kernels. Sound is OK up to and including kernel linux- image-2.6.33-02063305-generic_2.6.33-02063305_amd64.deb, but fails in all versions I tested from linux- image-2.6.34-02063401-generic_2.6.34-02063401_amd64.deb onward.
