I'm getting similar errors in an Atom powered DIY machine w/4 cores.
2GB RAM with a 1TB hdd. (I used to have 2 TB but removed 1 drive when
the errors were compounded):

Seems like a power to the drive issue when the machine is kind of idle
for a while. It isn't a notebook computer, but maybe Ubuntu thinks it
is because of the Atom processor? What other information can I provide
to help troubleshoot?
