Ok, run the following command to remove the proper files:  (copy and
paste the whole thing if you want)

sudo rm -r /etc/thunderbird ; sudo rm -r /home/jarrett/.thunderbird ;
sudo rm -r /home/jarrett/.mozilla-thunderbird ; sudo apt-get clean

Then reinstall thunderbird:

sudo apt-get install thunderbird

See if that solved the issue.  Also feel free to put your mail back in
the proper folder.
