Some more testing done.

It seems like the left mouse button gets stuck in pressed down mode, at
least for the applications. But maybe except for the application/widget
where the last mouse activity happened before the bug occured.

I have installed "gpm - General Purpose Mouse interface" to test the mouse and
trackpad in a Linux virtual terminal.
And while the bug is active in X/Gnome, there are no problems in the Linux
virtual terminal. Both mouse and trackpad works fully.

And when switching back to X/Gnome, the bug is still active for the USB
mouse. But touchpad activity in X/Gnome breaks the 'left mouse lock'
somehow for me.

- splashis
"This occures with both the touchpad (I got a Dell Inspiron 6400) and the
external mouse."

I have only been using the external mouse when this have happend.

- Bryce Harrington:
[Really, this smells more like a kernel level issue.]

Not sure if this is the same bug, but I think it's in Gnome. Could be
related to X also, but are there reports about this kind of bugs for
KDE? Or then the error is in X, but KDE is more tolerant.

To reproduce the bug. (Type some text first??) Then left clicking with
maybe some drag/select could do it. Have happend for me in gedit, gnome
terminal, firefox... With the last think before the bug occured being
just moving the mouse cursor and left clicking or pushing the button
down once. But it needs some luck/timing/'specific state' it seems...

One I have also been able to get a text selection moving in Chromium
after playing around a bit after this bug occured. That is with the hand
'mouse cursor' holding the selection, without holding down the left
mouse button. (Probably involving Ctrl+A since the selection where
large). And it can have been in/from the same tab that the bug occured
in.
