Clarification: I am still able to *open* Ubiquity, but once I get to the
"Preparing to install Ubuntu" screen, the mouse pointer becomes a
spinner and it will not proceed. I have tried rebooting and attempting
installation again, and the same problem occurs. I have waited at least
twenty minutes. Other programs still work, but Ubiquity will not redraw
its window contents once it has been minimized and restored.

Since this has occurred on a VMware virtual machine and xserver-xorg-
input-vmmouse prevents an icon showing for the mouse pointer (since the
host machine's mouse pointer is used), the attached screenshot doesn't
show the mouse pointer, but it was the spinner icon (indicating that the
system/application is "busy").
