To correct myself, Ubiquity hangs when I click the Forward button at the
"Preparing to install Ubuntu" step. That step itself (e.g.
checking/unchecking the boxes to install updates and proprietary
components) works fine. When I click the Forward button, it becomes
grayed out, which is expected behavior. So perhaps it is actually some
initial part of loading the *next* installation step that fails. I don't
know what operation is actually hanging.
