This may or may not end up being adjustable from the GUI in Natty, but
there will definitely be an easy way to change it if you are not
scared of editing text files.

The Unity places are defined in terms of .place files located in
/usr/share/unity/places. If you look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity/Places you'll see that the spec has two
keys ShowGlobal and ShowEntry which controls whether a place is
integrated in the global search results (when you press the Ubuntu
button) and/or has a dedicated entry in the launcher.

The support for this hasn't entirely landed yet, but it will soon.
When it does you should just be able to put ShowEntry=false in the
.place files. Then log out and log back in, and the launcher tiles
should be gone.
