I have the Eee 901 as well, and I've experienced some wireless issues too. I have had the problem of losing my connection entirely when I detach the power cord and run on battery. The workaround that seems to work for me is first to disable wireless networking with Fn+F2, detach the power cord, and after this enable wireless again with Fn+F2. After this the connection stays up and performs normally.
