@Colin King Thanks for you replay, I google-d a little bit to get the understanding what's PCIE_ASPM like and I found the explanation on the Intel site.
I run my notebook with pcie_aspm=off parameter, because it solves the machine crash when pulling out the power cord. I didn't study the kernel sources, but I'm still curious how the kernel sets the powersave/performance mode. It must set some registers in hardware and the question is are these settings chipset independent or are they different for amd/intel/via/... ? Are they defined in BIOS for every machine (like settings for "default")? In my case I have all this crashing problems only because: 1) amd chipset bug this does not explain why my laptop doesn't crash when using another internal pcie wifi card, only with intel 2) bios bug 3) intel wifi card hardware bug 4) intel iwlang kernel module bug Until we know where exactly is the problem, we must blacklist the problematic machines in pm-utils (because pm-utils do the job of performance/powersave switching). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/656745 Title: notebook always crashes if on battery (dell vostro 3700 and others) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
