It turns out, after further testing, the problem appears to be present in 2.6.32-28-generic, but can need several hours (3-4) to surface. Further testing of 2.6.32-27-generic has not shown the problem so, we have started bisecting Ubuntu-2.6.32-28.56 Ubuntu-2.6.32-27.49
