Hi RedSingularity:

I did this:
rm /etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade (you were right  - it had an older date 
than the sources.list file)

made sure that the /etc/apt/sources.list that was revised by you is in
place

then
sudo apt-get clean
then
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
then 
sudo do-release-upgrade -d

I have attached:
1. the console output
2. the file /etc/apt/sources.list 
3. var.log
4. main.log

I noticed in the main.log there is this message (among others)

2011-03-24 08:50:08,016 DEBUG BaseMetaPkg 'ubuntu-minimal' has no
candidateOrigin
