Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an easy fix for this. I was
hoping that we could simply enable Xapian's stemmer for the current
locale so that words like "d'argent" would become "argent" etc. Maybe I
just don't enough about French stemming, but the French stemmer in
Xapian stems "d'argent" to "d'argent" so that doesn't give us much.

The solution could be to forego the locale-dependent stemming (like we
already do) and add a custom stemmer that maps the pattern LETTER
APOSTROPHE WORD to just WORD. I think this would solve this particular
case, but could possibly break other languages (or other aspects of
French?).
