Today I installed a cheap sound card I got off ebay (Creative
SoundBlaster Live Digital SB0100) and it has totally fixed the problem.
Somehow I don't think 10.04 mixes well with the onboard sound my
computer came with so if anyone has the same problem this was an easy
fix for me.
