Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When in the small display the progress bar will freeze up and the name
of the song will also. The music will continue to play and move on to
the next song. The second bug is that when the music is playing and I
shut the program down with the X it will continue to play. When I go to
the applications and start the program up again it displays the song I
am hearing and where it is at in the song as if I never shut it down. I
then stopped playback and shut down and it seemed to be ok. I tried it
again with the music playing and it happened again. I then tried a new
approach and left the music playing and used the force application to
quit that you can add to your panel and that stopped the music and
everything as it should.
