In your case, the launcher seems to be set to un-hide when you move your
mouse to the top left corner. But the new default is to make the
launcher un-hide on pressing on the left edge of the screen. Maybe there
is some configuration problem. You can set it appropriately in 'Launcher
and Menus' in System Settings in the shutdown menu.
