I was redirected here from #717938 which seems to be the same(?) or a
similar bug, but on Intel hardware.

I can confirm that there is no "Enter your password" screen visible on
my 64bit Natty using the Nvidia binary driver, whereas it works as
expected on my 32bit netbook without any additional drivers. However it
is possible to start my system by entering the decryption password
"blindly" after the blank violet screen is shown for a few seconds. If
you were lucky and didn't make any typos after a short while you see the
graphical login screen.
