Thanks for the feedback José Antonio. For some reason, it seems that the
default settings for the launcher were not applied to the session. Could
it be that you were logged in Unity 2D as a fallback solution because
logging in to Unity didn’t work because your hardware didn’t meet the
requirements? (if so, that would be the same issue as described in the
comments of bug #747343).
In any case, issuing the following commands in a terminal should fix the
issue for you:
gconftool-2 --type=int --set /desktop/unity-2d/launcher/hide_mode 2
gconftool-2 --type=bool --set /desktop/unity-2d/launcher/use_strut false
