I have now attempted to re-install Ubuntu on the drive while it was attached to the SATA III controller. Still hangs on boot. I left boot on CD-ROM enabled this time in the BIOS, and the screen was not quite blank this time, it still had the CD-ROM boot message on it when it hung. I think this means it is not even getting to Grub. Can someone confirm this? Any suggestions for a work around?
