I believe my problem is the same or very similar. My wired connection works in fits and starts, repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting. When the same PC on the same LAN port was running Windows 7, the connection was stable.
I am running Ubuntu 11.04 AMD64, which was just installed yesterday, replacing Windows 7.
