Hi, could you please provide numbered steps to reproduce? I'm trying
here, but don't quite understand where you are when you mention "no way
to get back".
Here's what I'm doing so far:
1. Open VLC player
2. Click on the menu above, and hit "open file"

Status: New => Incomplete
** Changed in: unixmen
Status: New => Incomplete
** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Incomplete
