@Eugene: you probably have to quit the running Pidgin instance first. I also have this problem. Sometimes I do get the menu for the main window though, I think it happens when the system has just booted and the main window is shown for the first time. When I close the main window and then reopen it through the the little "social menu" or whatever it's called I can't get it to show the menu for the main window anymore.
