Note that Im not sure how or when this this post was originally
responded to besides, but this bug was from a while back as out can see
as I was using the Karmic Beta at the time.

 Anyhow, I do not and will not use Natty or any version of Unity/Gnome
Shell. Though I just tested out 2.28 version of netstatus and the wifi
strength bar connectivity signal bar is back and much much more
accurate. Although, since it's been 2 yrs I have a new laptop, so It's
not exactly a 1-for-1 comparison any longer. Though from what I can tell
it's working again.
