Can you clarify what you mean here by "Resizing the layer window in
GIMP "using the resizable grip
> area on the top of the window" is impossible.". Are you not able to re-size 
> it at all (eg, by using the re-size option in the window menu, or the grip or

If you *are* able to resize it, its a bug in the window placement
algorithm compiz uses and I need to fix that (though I need to fix
that "offset" too I think as well).
