taylorkh: The fact it's fixed in 11.10 alpha2 is good news; I'm not quite sure of the policies for backporting kernel fixes, but since you are having the problem in an LTS it sounds like it should be fixed.
I suspect the answer depends on just how 'dangerous' the fix is to every one else; if it might break other peoples CDROMs for example then I suspect it's not worth the risk. The challenge is tracking down exactly which fix fixed it; you say 11.10 alpha2 fixes it, how about 11.10 alpha1 on 11.04 ?
