The machine in question never gets enough on it to boot. After the error
occurs that is it. It does not respond to anything.  I pulled the hard
drive and mounted it in another machine with my USB hard drive dock - a
neat little toy.

dmsg says "(Nothing has been logged yet.)"

The only log with any contents is dpkg.log.  It is attached.
