Successfully removed grub-pc and reinstalled it. I see the following:

Creating config file /etc/default/grub with new version
Installation finished. No error reported.
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: avviso: Tentativo di installare GRUB su un disco privo di 
partizioni o su una partizione. Tale pratica non è raccomandabile..
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: avviso: L'embed non è possibile. GRUB può essere 
installato con questa configurazione solo usando blocklist. Le blocklist non 
sono comunque affidabili e ne viene sconsigliato l'uso..
Installation finished. No error reported.

I presume that the error message is due to the fact that I have followed the 
info given by boot-repair (install on every disk if uncertain). So, mi HD has 
several partitions:
HD itself is sda.
sda1 is for Win XP ntfs format
sda2 is an extended partition that contains sda5 and 6.
sda5 is for ubuntu, ext4 format
sda6 is swap, with swap format

I tried to reinstall grub2 on sda and sda5... now rebooting!
